This painting is made with a "stretch/re-stretch" approach to painting, wherein I use a smaller stretcher for a larger canvas that does not fit that stretcher. I then make a painting as normal. I then un-stretch the canvas, re-stretch it, and continue the process. This painting was executed by making four paintings, where each new painting interacts with previous paintings. So each internal painting already has a history it must deal with. Each internal painting already has a design it must contend with.
